How to Master the "Tell Me About Yourself" Interview Question

The Present-Past-Future framework.

The easiest way to structure your answer is in three simple steps:

• Present: Talk about your current role, study, or recent project. Keep it focused on your skills.
• Past: Mention a key achievement or experience that led you to this point. Highlight a project or accomplishment.
• Future: Explain why you are excited about this specific opportunity and how it aligns with your career trajectory.

Keep it under two minutes.

Your response should be a brief teaser, not a monologue. Keep it to 90 seconds. You want to give the interviewer enough interesting details so they can ask follow-up questions about your projects and accomplishments.

Practice, do not memorize.

Memorized answers sound robotic. Instead, write down three bullet points matching the Present-Past-Future steps and practice speaking them naturally. Focus on your delivery tone—enthusiasm and confidence go a long way.
